Here's the thing I love about Rocky Mountain National Park (and Estes Park); there's no other place that I have ever been where one can enjoy beautiful vista's and wildlife this up close and personal.

And I never get used to it. I take a ton of pictures, stare and gawk and feel lucky to be there. This, is son number two, Alex. Several months ago he said he was ready to move back to Colorado, and began to make plans. Many of you may recall that I am in the possession of about three and a half pounds of crap roving. This roving is so utterly bad that the only resemblance it has to the fleece we took to the mill is the color. No kidding. Here's another shot taken last weekend up at Rocky Mountain National Park, this time from the trail along Bear Creek. The trail is mostly flat, about half a mile round the lake and just right for a leisurely stroll as the sun goes down. 1. Traveling on a holiday weekend is nuts. Motels are either booked or outlandishly expensive.

2. You might as well forget about getting "last minute" reservations near anything interesting, unless of course you would like to stay at the Four Seasons at $1700 per night.

Four of us from KWA are fresh back from a sheep shearing at Rock Ledge Ranch. Today was the day they were giving their small flock of Merino sheep their summer haircuts. It is a beautiful morning here in Colorado Springs; bright blue skies, very slight breeze and still on the cool side. This afternoon is forecast to be warm, 80 or so, and by Monday the temps are supposed to reach 90 (yuk). Later on I'll "batten the hatches" to keep the house cool, but for now I'm enjoying the sound of birds coming through open windows.

Yesterday afternoon I indeed hooked up with Ellen to look at spinning wheels. The place where she bought her wheel is rather, um, unique. The end is in sight for the red cardi: Yesterday I sewed up the shoulder seams and figured how long the sleeves needed to be. Surprisingly, off the needles, the sleeve is the right width (at the top) so I just needed another inch and a half or so in length. I'm hoping to get them both done and sewn in today. Seems every few days there is a hiccup in the system, and something goes pear shaped. Yesterday around lunchtime I arrived at my new friend Ellen's house for an afternoon of spinning. Her little farm is beautiful and is home to 5 horses, 3 llamas, a variety of chickens, 3 dogs and 4 cats. It is situated with a phenomenal view of the rocky plain and front range, and I would move there in a New York minute. I even had the fire going. The down side is that after knitting about half of the front, I realized that I had totally miscalculated; that instead of the 48 (or so) rows I thought I had to make the decreases, I had 72 (or so) rows.
