to the pond and back

Yesterday was very near perfect....the weather was lousy, foggy, drizzly and chilly.....but completely perfect for catching up with my old pal TiVo and knitting. I even had the fire going. The down side is that after knitting about half of the front, I realized that I had totally miscalculated; that instead of the 48 (or so) rows I thought I had to make the decreases, I had 72 (or so) rows. Damn. Let's all say it together, shall we?? Rip it, rip it, rip it. I picked up the stitches using a tapestry needle and some waste yarn, which I left in place in case I have to make another trip to the pond. Back at the point of decision making, I contemplated just following the instructions, but decided that I really do want a v-neck rather than the crew. I'm happy to report, I've regained the ground lost to the frog pond, and am making progress. This just reiterates the point that Margene made a couple weeks ago: one should not knit anything that requires thought after 9 p.m. I'm going to take this a step further and say, NO MATH AFTER DINNER. On a positive note, when I discovered my error, I did not curse, yell scream or throw the cardi into the basket in favor of another project. I actually just started frogging, without the aforementioned histrionics, and settled back down to get it right. I'm patting myself on the back this morning, counting this as a real sign of knitterly maturity. I made another amazing---though non-knitting---discovery yesterday: my Spring cactus, having now lost all it's beautiful blooms is producing baby leaves! A closer inspection of my Christmas cactus shows the same thing, though not as dramatic. Aren't they cute? One year ago today, I was enjoying my last morning in Florence, Italy, and boarding the train for Rome. I pulled out the box of travel books and souvenirs and read my journal for May 5th 2005; we grabbed a bite to eat in Piazza San Croce and visited the Bargello (Florence's 2nd ranking Museo behind the Uffizi). It was once a notorious prison and site of executions in it's lovely courtyard. We happened across a wedding party in the Piazza della Signoria, and strolled the streets of Florence one last time. In my journal that night I wrote "I'm lonely for Florence." I still get lonely for Florence.

Here are some parting shots of Florence, on this Favorite Foto Friday.

Have a wonderful weekend; Have a safe Cinco de Mayo (if you celebrate this pseudo-holiday), and I'll talk to you Monday. Hopefully there will be happy news regarding Saturdays adventures in spinning.

Wish me luck.

Someday I hope to visit Florence. I think I'm lonely for it even though I've never been there. Enjoy your venture in spinning!

I'm with Margene - your photos made me lonely for it and I've never been there either!

Well, at least you're back on track with the sweater, right?!
